Estonia ranks fifth in the global cybersecurity index 17 Apr 2015
According to the recent global cybersecurity index of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Estonia is ranked fifth in the world.
The ranking is shared with Brazil, India, Japan, South Korea, Germany and the UK. The US is ranked first and Canada second.
TUT opens an unique European Architecture Master Programme in cooperation with 5 universities this autumn 13 Apr 2015
The TUT department of Architecture & Urban Design opens the new 2-year master’s programme in European Architecture to start in September 2015. The programme offers research-oriented workshop-studies at 6 universities in greater Europe, in cooperation with the Aalto Foundation and Bauhaus Dessau. The qualification is a double degree (M.Sc) together with Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa.
Estonian animation wins Grand Prix at the Holland Animation Film Festival 30 Mar 2015
“House of Unconsciousness”, an Estonian animation about “the dreams of chimney sweepers”, has won a Grand Prize at the Holland Animation Film Festival (HAFF).
The animation, directed by Priit Tender, is a psychedelic drama about a chimney sweeper and a burning woman. The film is apparently based on a long-term study of the dreams that chimney sweepers encounter most frequently.
University of Tartu open access courses attract participants from over 70 countries 11 Mar 2015
Ever since the University of Tartu started offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in 2014, Estonian higher education has reached learners in more than 70 countries worldwide.
The MOOC “Estimation of Measurement Uncertainty in Chemical Analysis” that started last week has 450 participants from 70 countries, the most exotic of which might be Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Jordan, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The course, led by Professor of Chemistry Ivo Leito, is in English and takes place for the second time. When it ran for the first time in 2014, it draw 270 participants from 40 countries.
International students satisfied with quality of education in Estonia 4 Mar 2015
The International Student Barometer (IBS) has found that 89 percent of international students at Estonian universities are satisfied with the quality of education on offer, but find career guidance lacking.
IBS is the global benchmark study for the international student experience, in which Estonia took part for the third time. In the academic year 2014-2015, 2,887 foreign students, plus 1,000 exchange students, were enrolled in Estonian universities. The sample of the survey was 1,035 international students in Estonia.

Estonian universities are accepting applications from international students to study in Estonia for 2015/2016 academic year. Some universities started accepting applications already in December 2014, however starting from January 2015 most Estonian universities are accepting application documents for next year.
